Taghazghuz voweled thus in the manuscript. An arabicization of the Turkic name Toquz Oghuz, “the Nine Oghuz [Tribes],” a group including the Turkic people known today as Uighurs.

Tamīm in traditional genealogy, a descendant of Muḍar (q.v.). In the text, the name is used as an alternative to Muḍar as a tribal name.

al-Ṭāqā the manuscript has “al-Ṭāfiq.” Al-Ṭāqā is Sauvaget’s suggested emendation (Relation, 52 n.27.1); it may reflect “Ṭakka,” the name in Indian sources of a kingdom in the upper reaches of the Chenab and Ravi rivers.
